Bishop, a multi-sport standout at St. Ansgar High School and former scholarship basketball player at Iowa State University, joined Cornell’s women’s staff as a volunteer coach in 2018-19.
Bishop played on two NCAA Tournament teams and a WNIT semifinal squad during her four-year career at Iowa State (2001-05). She was a three-time First Team Academic All-Big 12 performer, a member of the Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll and an ISU Scholar-Athlete while in Ames. Bishop earned a bachelor’s degree in fine arts.
Following her playing career, Bishop spent four years in Iraq as a teacher and basketball skills coach. In 2014, she moved to Solon and coached the varsity girls basketball team there for three seasons.
Bishop was a three-time all-state basketball selection at St. Ansgar (1998-01), compiling a 92-13 record as a four-year starter. Bishop led the Saints to four state tournament berths, highlighted by a Class 2A runner-up finish her senior season when she was named all-tournament.
Bishop, tabbed the 2001 Mason City Globe Gazette’s Athlete of the Year, owns St. Ansgar records for career points (1,596), scoring average (18.4 ppg), rebounds (831) and blocked shots (233). She also was a three-time all-state volleyball hitter and three-time state qualifier in the high jump for track & field.
Lisa and her husband Andy have three children: Zander, Zephie and Zeke. She teaches PK-5th grade art at Heritage Christian School and is the children’s coordinator at Jordan Creek Church in Solon.
