Langmack honored with Russell W. Landis Award

MOUNT VERNON – Men's lacrosse senior midfielder Brendan Langmack (SR/Olathe, Kan.) has been named recipient of Cornell's 2019-20 Russell W. Landis Award, the most prestigious honor annually of the athletics awards program.

The award recognizes the individual who best demonstrated academic excellence, campus leadership and athletic development over a four-year career. Russell Landis was a Cornell student-athlete and served his college and community in a variety of leadership roles before a highly-successful business career.

Langmack flourished in all facets of campus life, maintaining a 3.96 grade point average while pursuing a major in chemistry and minor in physics. This spring, Langmack was elected for induction to Phi Beta Kappa, the nation's oldest and most respected academic honor society.

The 2019 Paul Maaske Award honoree (highest GPA) was a three-time team captain and two-time Most Valuable Player for Coach Lane Zierten's Rams, ranking among the program's career leaders in several categories despite a shortened final season of only three games.

Langmack is Cornell's career leader in assists (39) and man-up goals (12). He stands fourth all-time in ground balls (153), fifth in caused turnovers (40) and sixth in points (91) and goals (52). Langmack played in 49 games for the Rams.

Langmack was named to the 2019 CoSIDA Academic All-District First Team and earned all-Midwest Lacrosse Conference academic honors four years. President of the Chemistry Club, Langmack was selected First-year Chemistry Student of the Year (2017), Organic Chemistry Award recipient (2018), Physical Chemistry Student of the Year (2019), Analytical Chemistry Student of the Year (2019) and named to the Dean's List Honor Roll all eight semesters.

This year's nominees for the Russell W. Landis Award included Sabrina Calabrese (softball), Hayden Dzurisin (tennis), Maxwell Ishmael (soccer), John-Michael Osley (baseball), Carley Robison (softball) and Matt Stoll (cross country/track & field).
