Unbeaten Rams edge St. Ambrose, 4-3

Box Score

DAVENPORT – Cornell's men kept their unbeaten tennis dual record intact Saturday with a tight 4-3 road win over St. Ambrose.

Freshman Chris Penas-Hull (FR/Lincoln, Neb.) shut out his opponent at No. 4 singles – 6-0, 6-0 – to clinch the team victory for the Rams (3-0).

The Rams and Fighting Bees (0-2) split the six contested singles matches. Cornell won two of three in doubles play. The dual was scored under NAIA rules, which awards only one collective team point for all the doubles matches.

Penas-Hull partnered with Federico Polidori (FR/Miami Beach, Fla.) for an 8-0 win at No. 2 doubles, completing his perfect meet without dropping a single game. He improved to 8-0 overall this fall.

Shoma Kishimoto (SR/Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif.) and Alexander Hadler-Strumlauf (FR/La Jolla, Calif.) also stayed unbeaten on the season. They teamed for a 6-2 victory at No. 1 doubles. Kishimoto won 6-2, 6-1 in the No. 1 singles slot, while Hadler Strumlauf earned a 6-1, 6-2 decision.

Cornell's Polidori (6-0, 4-6, 8-10) and Bryce Fincher (SO/Lafayette, Colo.) (3-6, 7-6, 1-10) both lost three-set battles in singles play.

Kishimoto boosted his career wins total to 140, one shy of Cornell's all-time record set by 2020 graduate Hayden Dzurisin. Kishimoto will have a chance to break the mark in Friday's fall finale at 4 p.m. at Wartburg.
