Rams roll 22-1 in record-setting rout of Morningside

SIOUX CITY – Cornell's women's lacrosse team turned in an offensive performance for the records books Sunday afternoon with a 22-1 rout of NAIA's Morningside at Tom Rosen Field.

Coach Meredith Merce's Rams set school records for most goals scored and largest margin of victory for a match in the program's seventh season of varsity lacrosse.

Cornell (2-0) had seven players etch into the scoring column, highlighted by a record-tying seven goals from Emily Beehler (SR/Nokomis, Fla.) in a spectacular senior debut. Beehler added a pair of assists and tied the program's single-match record for points scored with nine.

The Rams dominated both sides of the field and finished with a decisive 42-5 advantage in total shots. Cornell scored the first 12 goals of the match – including a strike from Beehler only 32 seconds in – and led 13-1 at intermission.

Junior Nina Deer (JR/Highland Park, Ill.) found the back of the net five times and dished one assist. Raquel Gassmann (JR/Santee, Calif.) delivered three goals. Elizabeth Ott (SR/St. Paul, Minn.), Molly Hallett (FR/Minneapolis, Minn.) and Anna Methe (FR/Omaha, Neb.) both scored twice, while Renee Wuest (SR/Minneapolis, Minn.) also had a goal.

Hallett and Methe, both freshmen, distributed two assists apiece. Sydney King (SO/Omaha, Neb.) had one assist.

Beehler paced the team with 10 draw controls and converted both of her free position shots. Deer and Seanne Bialo (JR/Anchorage, Alaska) recorded three ground balls apiece.

Goalkeeper Maddie Althoff (JR/Stillwater, Minn.) raised her record to 2-0, posting three saves over 60 minutes.

Coming up – The Rams take on Concordia Chicago in the home opener at 4:30 p.m. March 8 at Van Metre Field at Ash Park.
