MOUNT PLEASANT – Marcus Quirk (JR/Edinburgh, Scotland) and Logan Sharp (SO/Des Moines, Iowa) both recorded double-doubles, helping Cornell dominate the glass in a 75-51 men's basketball rout over Iowa Wesleyan Saturday afternoon in Ruble Arena.
Cornell (1-1) outrebounded the Tigers (0-1) by a wide 55-34 margin, getting 13 boards from Sharp and 12 from Quirk. Quirk tossed in 17 points, Sharp 12.
Senior Cooper Kabela (SR/West Branch, Iowa) nearly was the third Ram to notch a double-double, accounting for a game-high 23 points to go with nine rebounds. He drained three 3-point goals and shot 6-of-7 from the foul line.
The Rams took control early and led 38-23 at halftime. The lead ballooned to as many as 29 points in the second half.
The Rams held the home team to 31.5-percent shooting for the game. The 51 points allowed tied for the fewest by a Cornell team since the 2016-17 season.
Jordan Magnani (JR/Mount Pleasant, Iowa) pitched in 10 points. He and Kabela both had three steals.
Cornell shot it well from 3-point range (8-of-16) and connected on 15-of-21 free throw attempts.
