Cornell battles tough with A-R-C foe Loras

MOUNT VERNON – Cornell's improving men's tennis team played tough with visiting Loras Tuesday despite an 8-1 dual loss inside the Small Sport Center Arena.

The young Rams (4-3) were extremely competitive in doubles play, including an 8-7 loss by Cornell's No. 1 tandem Federico Polidori (FR/Miami Beach, Fla.) and Alexander Hadler-Strumlauf (FR/La Jolla, Calif.). The Duhawks (4-3) took the match in a tiebreaker, 7-5.

At No. 2 doubles, Chris Penas-Hull (FR/Lincoln, Neb.) and Alejandro Colorado (JR/Antiguo Cuscatlan, El Salvador) were edged in an 8-6 battle. Cornell No. 3 team of Drew Arnold (JR/Georgetown, Texas) and Bryce Fincher (SO/Lafayette, Colo.) lost 8-4.

Hadler-Strumlauf continued his impressive singles play with a 6-0, 6-2 victory over Tommy Linkenheld at the No. 2 position. The Cornell freshman improved to 6-1.

Penas-Hull took his opponent to the wire at No. 3, falling just short by scores of 6-3, 6-7 (3) and 9-7. At the top of the lineup, Polidori dropped a 6-3, 6-3 decision to Loras' Kevin Blomquist.

Arnold, Colorado and Michael Coester (SO/Cedar Rapids, Iowa) also came up short in singles competition.

Coming up – The Rams are home Saturday for an 11 a.m. dual meet with Milwaukee School of Engineering.
