Cornell women take 6-3 home meet over MSOE

MOUNT VERNON – Cornell's women's tennis team climbed back to the .500 mark with a 6-3 dual win over visiting Milwaukee School of Engineering Saturday in the Small Sport Center Arena.

Sophomore Regina Bermudez-Smith (SO/Richmond, Va.) won both of her contested matches to pace the Rams, who improved to 4-4 on the season.

Bermudez-Smith bumped her perfect season mark to 6-0 with a 6-1, 6-2 triumph at No. 4 singles. She partnered with Amanda Dragon (JR/Mount Vernon, Iowa) for an 8-3 win at No. 2 doubles.

At the top of the lineup, Cornell's No. 1 player Liv Aractingi (SO/Kansas City, Mo.) and No. 2 player Emmaline Fievet (JR/Bend, Ore.) both prevailed in third-set tiebreakers in singles competition. Aractingi earned a hard-fought 7-6 (7-4), 5-7, 1-0 (9-7) decision. Fievet won a 6-3, 5-7, 1-0 (7-5) battle.

Amanda Dragon won by default at No. 6 singles. Cornell's No. 3 doubles team of Makayla Johnson (FR/Westmont, Ill.) and Ashley Mink (FR/Akron, Ohio) also were declared winners by default.

Mink was edged 4-6, 6-2, 1-0 (9-7) at No. 5 singles. Cornell's No. 3 player Johnson lost 7-5, 6-2.

Coming up – Cornell travels to play Loras at 4 p.m. March 31 in Dubuque.
