Hadler-Strumlauf, Arnold earn singles wins against Knights

MOUNT VERNON – Cornell's Alexander Hadler-Strumlauf (FR/La Jolla, Calif.) and Drew Arnold (JR/Georgetown, Texas) came away with singles victories in Sunday's 7-2 men's tennis dual loss to Wartburg inside the Small Sport Center Arena.

Hadler-Strumlauf continued an impressive freshman campaign with a win at No. 2 singles, bumping his season record to 8-2. The Cornell player earned a 6-3 victory in the first set and then received an injury default against Jackson Eells.

Arnold gave Cornell (5-5 overall) another team point with his 7-6 (7-1), 6-2 victory at the No. 4 singles slot.

Wartburg (7-9) won the remaining four singles matches in straight sets. Cornell's No. 3 player Chris Penas-Hull (FR/Lincoln, Neb.) battled in a 7-5, 6-3 setback to Cade Davis.

The most competitive match of the meet came at No. 1 doubles, where Federico Polidori (FR/Miami Beach, Fla.) and Hadler-Strumlauf dropped a tight 8-7 (7-5) decision to Wartburg's Lucas Huffman and Eells. The Cornell duo were denied match point twice.

Cornell also came up just short at No. 3 doubles with Arnold and Michael Coester (SO/Cedar Rapids, Iowa) falling 8-5.

Coming up – The Rams travel to Ripon, Wis., April 10 for a 1 p.m. nonconference dual with the Red Hawks.
