Box Score MOUNT VERNON – Cornell's Alexander Hadler-Strumlauf (FR/La Jolla, Calif.) remained unbeaten in his freshman tennis season as the Rams were dealt their first dual setback, 5-4, against Simpson Saturday in the Small Sport Center Arena.
It was the first competition in five months for Cornell's men, who moved to 4-1 overall.
Hadler-Strumlauf continued to impress at the top of the lineup, scoring a 6-1, 6-4 victory over Reade Reiter at No. 1 singles. He teamed with fellow freshman Federico Polidori (FR/Miami Beach, Fla.) at No. 1 doubles for an 8-4 win.
Hadler Strumlauf improved his season record to 10-0.
The Rams rallied from a 2-1 doubles deficit and took three wins in singles play. In addition to Hadler-Strumlauf's triumph, Chris Penas-Hull (FR/Lincoln, Neb.) was a 6-2, 6-4 winner at No. 3 and Drew Arnold (JR/Georgetown, Texas) earned a hard-fought 7-6 (5), 6-7, 1-0 (6) win at the No. 5 position.
Simpson (1-5) prevailed in a pair of competitive doubles matches that helped swing the meet to the visitors. Cornell's Penas-Hull and Alejandro Colorado (JR/Antiguo Cuscatlan, El Salvador) lost 8-5 at No. 2. The Rams' No. 3 tandem of Arnold and Bryce Fincher (SO/Lafayette, Colo.) came up short, 8-4.
