ST. PAUL, Minn. – Cornell women's lacrosse team dropped a Midwest Women's Lacrosse Conference match Friday night against first place Hamline University. The Rams were shut out by the Pipers, 15-0.
It took Hamline just 43 seconds to get on the scoreboard, and another 16 seconds to add a second goal to gain control Friday night. The Rams (3-4 overall, 0-3 MWLC) defense settled in after the quick start, and kept the Pipers within six at the intermission.
The second half was more offense by Hamline, netting four more goals in the first 10 minutes. Overall on the night, Hamline (6-4 overall, 4-0 MWLC) outshot Cornell 43-6 and completed all 11 of their clear attempts.
Hamline scooped up 20 more ground balls, and took advantage of their 4-of-9 free position opportunities.
Sydney King (SO/Omaha, Neb.) and Carrie Callahan (JR/Iowa City, Iowa) paced the Rams with three ground balls a piece. Callahan also caused two Piper turnovers.
Maddie Althoff (JR/Stillwater, Minn.) led the Rams with six ground balls in the match. Althoff recorded 18 saves in net for the Rams.
Coming up – The Rams return to Van Metre Field at Ash Park tomorrow for senior day. Cornell will face off against Northwestern University - St. Paul. Senior day ceremonies will begin at 4:20 p.m. followed by the game.
