Rams top Monmouth, move to 2-0 in MWC

MONMOUTH, Ill. – Cornell's men's tennis team stayed unbeaten in Midwest Conference play with a 6-3 dual win at Monmouth Sunday afternoon.

With the weekend sweep, the Rams improved to 7-6 overall and 2-0 in the MWC.

Freshman Alexander Hadler-Strumlauf (FR/La Jolla, Calif.) and junior Alejandro Colorado (JR/Antiguo Cuscatlan, El Salvador) picked up two wins apiece to lead Cornell's lineup. Hadler-Strumlauf rolled 6-0, 6-2 at No. 2 singles, moving his stellar season record to 11-2.

Hadler-Strumlauf and No. 1 doubles partner Federico Polidori (FR/Miami Beach, Fla.) battled to an 8-7 victory, decided by an 8-5 tiebreaker. Cornell's No. 3 tandem of Colorado and Michael Coester (SO/Cedar Rapids, Iowa) won handily, 8-2.

The Rams added singles wins at the No. 4-6 positions. Colorado completed his perfect day with a 6-3, 6-0 win at No. 5.

Drew Arnold (JR/Georgetown, Texas) topped his No. 4 singles opponent by scores of 6-4 and 7-5. At No. 6, Bryce Fincher (SO/Lafayette, Colo.) gave up only one game in his 6-0, 6-1 triumph.

Chris Penas-Hull (FR/Lincoln, Neb.) was outlasted in a third-set tiebreaker – 6-1, 3-6, 10-1 – at No. 3 singles.

Coming up – The Rams take on defending MWC champion Grinnell at 4 p.m. Tuesday in Grinnell.
