St. Norbert stops Rams in home finale, 8-1

MOUNT VERNON – Cornell dropped an 8-1 women's tennis dual to Midwest Conference North Division foe St. Norbert in Wednesday's home final inside the Small Sport Center Arena.

The Rams (4-8 overall, 0-3 MWC) received their lone win of the meet from Regina Bermudez-Smith (SO/Richmond, Va.), who scored a 6-0, 7-5 victory over Nicole Pfotenhauer at No. 4 singles. Bermudez-Smith improved to 4-2 this spring.

Cornell also had their chances at No. 5 and 6 singles, both matches extending to the third set. No. 5 player Amanda Dragon (JR/Mount Vernon, Iowa) came up short 6-1, 3-6 and 10-4. Cornell's Ashley Mink (FR/Akron, Ohio) lost a 6-4, 4-6, 10-5 battle at the No. 6 slot.

In doubles play, Cornell's No. 2 pair of Bermudez-Smith and Dragon dropped an 8-4 decision. The Rams' No. 1 tandem of Liv Aractingi (SO/Kansas City, Mo.) and Emmaline Fievet (JR/Bend, Ore.) and No. 3 partners Makayla Johnson (FR/Westmont, Ill.) and Mink lost by identical 8-2 scores.  

Coming up – The Rams conclude MWC divisional play Saturday with a 1 p.m. meet at Lake Forest (4-1, 2-0 MWC).
