Cornell downs Blueboys again, 8-1

JACKSONVILLE, Ill. – Cornell's men's tennis team kept firm hold of second place in the Midwest Conference South Division with an 8-1 triumph over Illinois College Saturday afternoon.

The Rams (8-7 overall, 3-1 MWC) beat the Blueboys by the same convincing margin for the second time in eight days.

Alexander Hadler-Stumlauf earned his 20th and 21st victories of the season on a day in which he didn't surrender a game. The freshman paired with Federico Polidori (FR/Miami Beach, Fla.) for an 8-0 shutout at the No. 1 doubles position. Hadler-Strumlauf then blanked his No. 2 singles opponent 6-0, 6-0.

The Rams also received 6-0, 6-0 singles decisions from No. 4 player Drew Arnold (JR/Georgetown, Texas) and No. 5 player Alejandro Colorado (JR/Antiguo Cuscatlan, El Salvador). Polidori coasted 6-2, 6-1 at No. 1 singles and Chris Penas-Hull (FR/Lincoln, Neb.) won 6-4, 6-1.

Junior Ravi Parekh (JR/Coralville, Iowa) was outlasted in three sets – 2-6, 6-1, 10-1 – in his first collegiate varsity match at No. 6.

Penas-Hull and Arnold were 8-3 winners at No. 2 doubles. Colorado and Michael Coester (SO/Cedar Rapids, Iowa) teamed for an 8-2 victory at No. 3

Coming up – The Rams continue a three-dual, three-day stretch Sunday with a noon home match against Monmouth (2-5, 2-3 MWC).
