AUBURNDALE, Fla. – Cornell's baseball team couldn't overcome five errors that led to four unearned runs in Monday's 8-1 setback to Albion College.
The Rams tallied eight hits in the nine-inning contest, receiving two apiece from freshman
Seth Beals and sophomore catcher
Cody Zahn.
Ryan Rader and
Colin Gierula each had a double for Cornell.
Freshman
Kale Rose singled in Zahn for Cornell's lone run in the bottom of the fifth, trimming the deficit to 4-1. The margin stood until the eighth, when Albion pulled away with three runs.
The Ram had multiple scoring chances, leaving 10 runners on base. They had the bases loaded with no outs in the sixth, but stranded all three runners.
Cornell used seven pitchers in the game. Relievers
Vince Zipperer,
Chad Dzierba, Rose,
Aiden Rosenthal and
Bobby Petersen all tossed one inning and none of them allowed an earned run.
Starter
Carter Kriegel struck out three and yielded three earned runs over four innings.
The Rams continue spring break action Wednesday with a 1:30 p.m. (Central time) matchup against Crown in Davenport, Fla.
