DAVENPORT, Fla. – A long day/night at the park plagued by multiple rain delays saw Cornell fall on the short end of a 14-6 baseball game with Crown Wednesday at Northeast Regional Field.
Cornell's lineup generated 10 hits and had several scoring chances throughout, leaving 13 runners on base in the 3-hour, 30-minute contest.
Designated hitter
Tony Neuman led Cornell's attack, going 2-for-3 with three RBIs.
Darren Mancke also had a pair of hits, scoring once and driving in a run.
The Rams (1-5) received extra-base hits from
James Kent (double) and
Kale Rose (triple). Paxon Wright scored two runs from the leadoff spot in the order. Freshman
Seth Beals singled to extend his hitting streak to five games.
Cornell kept pace with Crown (4-4) in the early going and trailed 5-4 going into the fifth. Crown gained separation with a six-run sixth inning.
Five Cornell pitchers combined for 12 strikeouts in the contest. Reliever
Bobby Petersen worked a scoreless ninth inning.
The Rams have a quick turnaround Thursday with a 9 a.m. (Central time) first pitch against Nebraska Wesleyan in Auburndale, Fla.
