AUBURNDALE, Fla. – Cornell's baseball team had its four-game Florida win streak snapped Thursday afternoon with a 3-1 setback to Ohio Northern at Lake Myrtle Park.
The Rams (6-3) struck for a run in the bottom of the first inning, but were shut down the rest of the way against Ohio Northern sophomore Blake Altaffer, who faced just two batters over the minimum in a nine-inning, eight-strikeout outing.
Third baseman
Colin Gierula accounted for two of Cornell's five hits, including a two-out RBI single that plated
Vince Zipperer for the game's initial run.
Ohio Northern (7-4) forged ahead 2-1 with a pair of runs in the top of the fifth. The Polar Bears added an insurance run with two outs in the seventh.
Seth Beals,
Drew Logel and Zipperer had one hit apiece for the Rams. Zipperer doubled in the first for Cornell's lone extra-base hit.
Cornell starting left-hander
Will Miller yielded six hits and three earned runs over six innings.
Preston Wright and
Carter Kriegel combined to pitch 3.0 scoreless innings in relief.
