WAVERLY – Cornell's men's basketball team went to overtime for the second straight night and claimed a 98-94 thriller over host Wartburg in Saturday's championship game of the Buzz Levick Classic.
The Rams (3-1) completed an impressive 2-0 weekend, which included a 75-73 overtime win over perennial power UW-Whitewater on Friday.
Senior
Zach Ingle was named Tournament Most Valuable Player after netting a career-high 30 points in the title game. He averaged 26.0 points and hit nine 3-point goals over the two games.
Jayden Meeker also represented the Rams on the All-Tournament Team. He went for 23 points and six assists against Wartburg (2-2).
Meeker sank two free throws with 33 seconds left in regulation that ultimately forced overtime against Wartburg. Cornell put up 16 points in the extra five-minute period, six coming from Meeker.
Ingle had the hot hand from the outside, canning five of Cornell's 11 3-point goals.
Dylan Hurley flirted with a triple-double, going for 14 points, 10 assists and eight rebounds.
Connor Barnett and
Nate Jacobson pitched in eight points apiece off the bench.
The Rams shot it at a 52.3-percent clip from the field.
Coming up – The Rams get a rematch with rival Coe Wednesday in a Bremner Cup game at 7:30 p.m. in Cedar Rapids. The Kohawks took the first meeting 90-78, on Nov. 8.
