CEDAR RAPIDS –
Nate Jacobson buried a contested 3-pointer with three seconds left and lifted Cornell's men's basketball team to a thrilling 74-71 victory over Coe Wednesday night at Kohawk Arena.
Jacobson's clutch shot propelled Cornell (4-1) to its fourth consecutive win and a key point in the
2024-25 Bremner Cup All-Sports Series, which Coe now leads 5-3.
The Rams snapped an eight-game series slide against the Kohawks (1-2) and avenged a 90-78 loss to their Linn County rival just 12 days ago in Mount Vernon.
Cornell delivered big plays on both ends down the stretch, highlighted by a pair of 3-pointers from Jacobson who came off the bench to score 12 points in 19 minutes. The junior guard sank a three that put the Rams ahead 71-69 with 2:18 remaining.
After Coe tied it at 71-71 with 41 seconds left, the Rams ran the clock down for what turned into a winning flurry at the end.
Zach Ingle misfired on a tough corner jumper, but teammate
Dylan Hurley snatched the loose rebound and found Jacobson at the top of the key for the winning shot.
Coe's 3-point attempt to tie it was off the mark as time expired. Cornell celebrated its third victory decided by four points or less in a span of six days. It was the first win over Coe since 2019.
Hurley had an outstanding game with 17 points, five assists, five rebounds and three steals, while shooting 8-of-12 from the field. Ingle tossed in 16 points, hiking his career total to 996. Ingle grabbed a team-high nine rebounds.
Jayden Meeker provided 11 points, eight rebounds and three steals.
The Rams shot 58.2 percent in the second half and held off a late charge by the Kohawks, who were limited to 3-of-20 shooting from 3-point range for the game.
Coe's Bennett Sherry led all scorers with 30 points.
Coming up – The Rams take on their third consecutive American Rivers Conference opponent Saturday, hosting Central at 5 p.m. in the Small Athletic and Wellness Center.
