INDIANOLA – Freshman
Jasmine McCaskel notched three victories to lead Cornell's women's wrestling team at Saturday's season-opening Luther Hill Invitational, hosted by Simpson College.
McCaskel finished 3-2 in the Fresh/Soph Division at 145 pounds. She had two technical falls and then recorded her first collegiate pin in 4:00 over Iowa Central's Isaiah Turrentine in the consolation round.
McCaskel dropped a tight 8-7 decision in the quarterfinals to Simpson's Noa Arnold.
Cornell 160-pounder
Emily Grassham posted a pair of quick pins in 1:51 and :18 on the consolation side and finished the day at 2-2.
Camryn Aikanoff also went 2-2 in the 180-pound bracket. She won her first two matches by fall – 4:16 and 2:25 – before getting pinned by Southeastern's Anya Hatch in the quarterfinals.
Kyla Andrew (131) and
Shaely Kunz (160) both finished 1-2 at their respective weights. Danyia Werner lost twice at 180.
In the Varsity Division,
Cheyenne Mulford (124) and
Emma Stevenson (160) both finished 0-2.
Coming up – The Rams compete Saturday, Nov. 9 at the Luther Open in Decorah.
