OLIVET, Mich. – In its first action of the season with a national ranking tag, No. 24 Cornell went 2-2 at the Comet Duals Saturday hosted by the University of Olivet.

Brent Hamm's Rams knocked off 13th-ranked Ohio Northern, 17-16, in the opening meet and also scored a 34-7 victory over Heidelberg. Cornell dropped duals to Olivet, 32-10, and John Carroll, 24-14.
The Rams (4-3) had three nationally-ranked individuals finish 3-1 on the day in No. 12
Landon Card at 149 pounds, No. 4
Cael McLaren at 184 and No. 11
Treyten Steffen at 197. McLaren recorded bonus points in three wins with a pin, technical fall and major decision.
McLaren's 10-1 major decision gave the Rams just enough cushion in the one-point dual win over Ohio Northern. Cornell split 10 matches against the Polar Bears, which included a 12-2 major decision from
Jase Van Pelt (125) and decisions from Card (11-6 at 149), Scott Scheidecker (3-0 at 157) and
Dahson DeJong (3-2 at 174).
Cornell won eight of the 10 contested bouts against Heidelberg. The Rams racked up bonus points in wins by
Jayson Stevens (11-0 major decision at 125), DeJong (15-0 technical fall at 174), McLaren (pin in 2:23 at 184), Steffen (15-0 technical fall at 197) and 12th-ranked heavyweight
Jackson Brinker (18-1 technical fall).
Steffen's 13-3 major decision accounted for one of Cornell's three individual wins against Olivet. The dual with John Carroll had
Brian Petry record a second-period pin at 165 and McLaren with a 27-10 technical fall at 184.
Petry finished the day with a 3-1 record.
