MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – In a women's basketball matchup of the Rams Tuesday night, Cornell used a 27-point third quarter to pull away for a 71-52 victory over North Central at Clark-Danielson Gymnasium.
Cornell (2-3) rattled home 12 3-pointers and shot 47.2 percent from the field in its best offensive performance of the young season.
Erin Knowles tossed in a game-high 24 points and
Reagan Wells netted 15 for Cornell, which never trailed in the contest. Both impressive first-year players drained three 3-point goals.
Cornell set the tempo with a 14-2 spurt to start the game. The North Central Rams (0-7) trimmed the margin to 31-28 at intermission. Cornell regained control with a 27-10 third-quarter surge during which Knowles accounted for 11 of her points.
Cornell's starting lineup included
Heidi Jorgensen with nine points,
Maya Hodge with eight and
Rylee VanDresar with seven. Jorgensen added five assists and five rebounds. Wells came away with four of the team's 12 steals. Knowles had five rebounds.
Cornell hurried North Central into 25 turnovers, which resulted in 29 points.
