MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – Cornell's women's lacrosse team wrapped up its best regular season in program history with an 18-3 blowout over Augsburg Saturday afternoon at Edor Nelson Field.
Coach
Meredith Meier's Rams (13-3 overall, 3-2 MLC) secured sole possession of third place in the Midwest Lacrosse Conference and are postseason-bound for the second consecutive year.
Cornell earned the No. 3 seed in the four-team MLC Tournament and will face No. 2 seed Lake Forest (12-3 overall, 4-1 MLC) in Wednesday's semifinal in Lake Forest, Ill.
Cornell's high-powered attack scored in bunches against Augsburg (2-13 overall, 0-5 MLC), netting 14 first-half goals, including 10 in the second quarter alone. Saturday marked the ninth time the Rams totaled at least 15 goals in a game this spring.
Cece Zanoni paced the offense with seven goals and one assist, while
India Smith scored six times. Both dynamic players topped the 80-point mark for the season.
Meg Lewis tallied two goals and
Sabrina Ibanez dished two assists. The Rams received one goal apiece from
Alexis Partida,
Brynn Miroslavich and
Cheyenne Greenenwald. Lewis and Smith shared team-high honors with six draw controls.
Ilsa Jeffery and Smith each had three caused turnovers.
Goalie
Hannah Miech recorded her 13th win of the season, posting three saves over 45 minutes.
Kathryn Andries worked a scoreless fourth quarter.
Cornell outshot the Auggies, 46-13, and held a 24-11 advantage in ground balls.
