Quirk '22 selected No. 3 overall in PLG Draft

| By:
MOUNT VERNON – Former Cornell men's basketball standout Marcus Quirk was selected in the first round of the P.LEAGUE+ (PLG) Draft on July 12 in Taipei, Taiwan.

Quirk, of Edinburgh, Scotland, was drafted by the Kaohsiung Steelers with the No. 3 overall pick. The 6-foot-6 forward was a four-year starter at Cornell from 2018-22.

The PLG was formed in 2020 to rejuvenate basketball in Taiwan. The league has grown exponentially in a short time with stadium attendance reaching 600,000 and YouTube viewership surpassing 50 million during the 2022-23 season.

Foreign students who play at least two seasons of college basketball in Taiwan are draft eligible. Each team can select one foreign student, and the rest are locals.

The PLG's notable NBA alumni include Jeremy Lin, Anthony Bennett and Hasheem Thabeet.

Quirk totaled 939 points and 462 rebounds in 88 games for the Rams. A two-time Midwest Conference Elite 20 Award recipient, Quirk was a key piece to Cornell's 2021-22 MWC Tournament championship team that qualified for the NCAA Division III Tournament.

Quirk was named a Third Team CoSIDA Academic All-American in 2021.
