Men's Tennis battles at ITA Midwest Regional

SAINT PETER, Minn. - The Cornell men's tennis team was one of 27 teams in the region who competed at the ITA Division III Midwest Regional Championships over the weekend at Gustavus Adolphus College. 284 players competed in the regional and Midwest Open. 

Junior Zachary Ong, and freshman Drew Campbell reached the round of 32 in the Midwest Open doubles event. The tandem prevailed over Simpson's Drake Downard and Seth Orta 8-1 in the round of 64. Ong and Campbell dropped their round of 32 match 8-3 to Central's Ernest Chedzoy and Travis Subbert. 

Campbell and sophomore Mills Arnold competed for the Rams in the Midwest Open singles competition. Campbell fell to Gustavus's Gonzalo De Lorenzo in the opening round 6-2, 7-5, and Arnold dropped his match to Liam Lynch of Macalester 6-3, 6-1. 

Ong and sophomore Trent Devore competed for the Rams in the regional main draw singles field. Both of them were edged in their round of 128 matches respectively. 

Devore/Arnold battled in the opening round of the main draw doubles field, ultimately falling to Dubuque's Jake Wallrichs and Gavin Murrie, 8-4. 

Devore and Arnold played in the consolation singles brackets on Saturday. Arnold secured a first round win over Concordia Moorhead, 8-2, before dropping his second round match to Bethel, 8-5. Devore was narrowly defeated by St. Olaf, 8-6.

The Rams return to the courts in February for their spring slate.
