PELLA – Cornell's men's wrestling team claimed seven placewinners and three consolation champions across three divisions Saturday at Central's Under Armour Invitational.
Junior 197-pounder
Landen Schemmel was crowned consolation champion in the Gold Division with a 7-5 decision over Samuel Adams of Dickinson State. Schemmel finished his day 2-1 with one pin.
In the Silver Division,
Jayson Stevens at 125 and
Nolan Schuetz at 165 both went 2-1 and took first on the consolation side in their respective brackets. Stevens recorded a technical fall and a pin. Schuetz posted a fall.
Dylan Heater tallied two technical falls and placed third in the 133-pound Silver bracket with a 3-1 mark. The Rams fielded two placewinners at 174 with
Josue Hernandez (1-2, fourth) and
Jace Nelson-Brown (3-1, fifth).
Also in the Silver Division,
Cooper Ludwig placed fifth at 149.
Ethan Diaz at 133 and
Jack Hiland at 197 both finished sixth.
Freshman
Nate Wood dominated his competition as the 149-pound champion in the Bronze Division. Wood finished 3-0 with pins in 24 seconds, 5:21 and 1:55.
Coming up – The Rams compete at the NWCA National Duals Friday and Saturday, Jan. 10-11, in Cedar Falls. Pairings will be released early next week.
