DECATUR, Ill. – Seniors
Austin Wilkins (184 pounds) and
Jackson Brinker (197) both reached the finals in their respective brackets to head Cornell's men's wrestling team at the Millikin Open Saturday.
Coach
Brent Hamm's Rams landed 15 total placewinners in a field of 18 teams.
Wilkins finished runner-up at 184 with a 3-1 record, which included a pin and major decision. He lost 8-3 in the championship match to Cory Cannan of Lindsey Wilson College.
The 11th-ranked Brinker was edged 7-6 by Millikin's Mateo Casillas in the title bout at 197. Brinker breezed into the finals with two major decisions and a pin.
The Rams received third-place efforts from
AJ Parrish (4-1 at 157),
Braydon Hoffman (3-1 at 285) and
Jase Van Pelt (4-1 at 125). Eighth-ranked
Brian Petry (3-2 at 165) and freshman
Truman Folkers (3-2 at 133) both placed fourth.
Rounding out Cornell's placewinners were
Owen West (5th at 125),
Jayson Stevens (5th at 133),
Dylan Heater (6th at 141),
Nolan Howell (6th at 157),
Eli Sneed (7th at 133),
Owen Adlfinger (8th at 141),
Landen Schemmel (8th at 184) and
Elias Chapin (8th at 174).
