INDIANOLA – Cornell's women's wrestling team went up against top competition at Saturday's NCWWC Region 7 Championships inside Simpson's Cowles Fieldhouse.

The Rams finished 10th in the NCAA qualifier, which featured four nationally-ranked teams including No. 1 University of Iowa. The top four individual finishers in each weight class earned NCAA berths.

Freshman Averi Burke led Cornell's performances with a 1-2 record at 138 pounds. She lost by technical fall to Iowa's eventual champion Nanea Estrella in the first round, although bounced back with a 14-1 technical fall over Augustana's Abigail Dennington.

Burke was eliminated in the next round of consolations by Augsburg's Kelsey Cruz, 10-0.

Cornell's lineup included Milar Little (110 pounds), Cheyenne Mulford (117), Ava Garcia (124), Olivia Cotton (145), Sydney Newberg (160) and Kaylynn Sparks (160). All finished 0-2.

Iowa ran away with the team title, outscoring runner-up Wartburg, 192-128.

The Rams completed their second season as a varsity program under head coach Boston Jacobs. Cornell won two dual meets, highlighted by a 24-16 victory over Central Dec. 13 in the program's first-ever home competition.
