FOND DU LAC, Wis. – Cornell men's lacrosse playing their inaugural game in the NACC (Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference), rallied in the fourth quarter to send the game to overtime against Marian University. In the third overtime Marion pulled out the victory over the Rams 10-9.
Playing in the rain and snow with temperatures hovering around freezing, the Rams (3-3) found themselves down 9-6 to the Vikings (2-2) with 12:45 to go in the game. Senior
Matt Norwood netted two goals, the second on an assist from
Tyler Foster to pull Cornell within one point.
With 59 seconds to play in the fourth period freshman
Aron Rodriguez scored his fourth goal of the game to send it to overtime.
In the first and second overtimes the two teams continued to not only battle each other, but the elements as well. Neither team could score in the first two overtimes. In the third overtime the Vikings Trevor Stachowski scored with 45 seconds left to seal the victory.
The Rams were led on offense by Rodriguez with four goals. Norwood chipped in three goals and one assist.
Charley Kobets added a goal for Cornell.
Faceoff specialist
Ash Hoelscher had another stellar game for Cornell winning 11 out of 15 faceoffs, picking up eight ground balls and scoring a goal.
Kayden Kuan led the Rams with 10 ground balls.
Defensively, senior
Torii Greiskalns put up big numbers with eight caused turnovers and seven ground balls. Goalie
Thomas Cook had 14 saves for the Rams.
Coming up – The Rams return home to face Lawrence at 11:00 a.m. Saturday at Van Metre Field at Ash Park.
