MEQUON, WI. – Cornell women's lacrosse traveled to Wisconsin on Saturday to face conference foe Concordia (Wis.). The Rams found themselves in a back and forth game that ended with them falling 10-9 in overtime at Fitting Field.
The Rams (3-5 overall, 1-1 NACC) trailed 2-0, before Sabrina Ibanez found the net on a nifty assist from Meg Lewis to make the score 2-1 early in the first period. After the Falcons scored again, senior Cece Zanoni tacked on a goal late in the quarter to make it 3-2. Concordia put one more on the board as the quarter came to an end.
The second quarter was all Rams. Meg Lewis scored an unassisted goal early in the quarter and Zanoni scored her second goal of the game late in the period to tie it up 4-4 going into half. Junior Sabrina Ibanez picked up the assist on the Zanoni goal.
The Rams took the lead 8-6 late in the third quarter on three goals in 2 minutes and 37 seconds. Zanoni scored first with her third goal of the game, Brynn Miroslavich and Ava Ferencz each added a goal. In the fourth period the Rams were outscored 3-1 by the Falcons (2-6 overall, 1-1 NACC) to send the game to overtime tied up 9-9. In overtime Concordia's Katelyn Cardinale found the net with 2:10 on the board.
Goalie Hannah Miech had 12 saves on 22 shots on goal by Concordia (Wis.). Miech also had a caused turnover and five ground balls.
Zanoni had three goals and one assist for the Rams. Ibanez picked up two goals and two assists. Ilsa Jeffery had five caused turnovers and five ground balls to lead Cornell's defense.
Lewis had a great all-around game for the Rams with one goal, two assist, six ground balls, four caused turnovers and five draw controls
Coming up – Rams travel to Appleton, Wis. Wednesday to face Lawrence in a conference match up. Game time is 6:00 p.m.
