APPLETON, Wis. – Cornell's scoring machine that is
Cece Zanoni established a school record for points in a game as the Rams raced past Lawrence, 18-3, in NACC women's lacrosse action Wednesday night at the Banta Bowl.
Despite the absence of three key players, Cornell had its way against the first-year Vikings and climbed to fourth place in the NACC standings at 2-1.
Zanoni accumulated 13 total points, breaking the program mark of 11 set by Nina Deer against Marian in 2022. The senior attacker netted six goals and her seven assists is also a new single-game school record. Zanoni raised her season points total to 51 through nine games.
Cornell's career scoring leader, Zanoni tallied all six of her goals in the first half as the Rams built a commanding 12-2 advantage at the break. Her impressive stat line included a team-best six ground balls and three caused turnovers.
Ava Ferencz,
Meg Lewis and
Natalie Hudgins delivered three goals apiece for a Cornell attack that outshot the Vikings (1-6 overall, 0-3 NACC) by a 36-7 margin.
Hailey Sieler,
Tess Cooper and
Cheyenne Greenenwald added one goal apiece.
Junior
Ilsa Jeffery anchored the defense with seven caused turnovers, followed by
Natalie Hudgins with five. Lewis scooped five ground balls.
Cornell goalies
Hannah Miech and
Kathryn Andries both worked 30 minutes and combined for two saves.
Coming up – Cornell plays host to Milwaukee School of Engineering (1-7 overall, 1-1 NACC) at 10 a.m. Sunday at Van Metre Field at Ash Park.
