MOUNT VERNON – Cornell men's lacrosse faced Edgewood on Wednesday in a battle for eighth place in the NACC, which would secure a place in the year end conference tournament. The Rams started strong, but fell 14-6 at Van Metre Field at Ash Park.
The Rams (5-9, 2-7 NACC) jumped out to quick lead when
Caden Lynch found the net :37 seconds into the game. Sophomore
Tyler Foster followed up with his 18
th goal of the year at the 12:04 mark of the first period, on a nifty assist from
Charley Kobets.
The Eagles (4-9, 3-6 NACC) then ran off nine unanswered goals before Cornell scored three in a row to finish the third period. During the Rams run Foster scored two goals, the first on an assist from
Matt Norwood.
Brandon Warnke added a goal on an assist from
Aron Rodriguez. Rodriguez rounded out the scoring for the Rams with a goal late in the fourth period.
Defensively for Cornell,
Torii Greiskalns came up with a huge game. Greiskalns who leads NCAA DIII for caused turnover per game, had a career high seven caused turnovers. He also picked up 13 ground balls.
Senior
Ash Hoelscher was 12-of-17 on face offs and picked up six ground balls.
Ben Schwartz picked up four ground balls and
Thomas Cook,
Matt Norwood,
Ace Rivera and
Landon Card each had three ground balls.
Goalie
Thomas Cook had 16 saves on 40 shots by the Eagles. Cornell won 17-of-24 face offs, besides Hoelscher,
Kayden Kuan was 2-of-3 and
Ben Wojewski was 3-of-4.
Coming up – The Rams stay at home for their final two games. They face Lake Forest on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. and Dubuque on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m., both games take place at Van Metre Field at Ash Park.
