MOUNT VERNON – In a game of runs by each team, two late goals by
Natalie Hudgins secured the 10-7 victory for Rams women's lacrosse over MSOE (Milwaukee School of Engineering) on a beautiful Sunday morning at Van Metre Field at Ash Park.
Cornell (5-5, 3-1 NACC) jumped to a 3-0 lead midway through the first quarter on goals by
Hailey Sieler,
Sabrina Ibanez and
Brynn Miroslavich. MSOE (1-9, 1-3 NACC) then went on a run of five straight goals to take a 5-3 lead early in the second period.
After MSOE took the lead the Rams scored five of the next six goals to go up 8-6. Cornell picked up goals from
Ava Ferencz, Miroslavich (second goal of game),
Cece Zanoni, Ibanez (second goal of game) and
Meg Lewis during the run. The Raiders picked up another goal before Hudgins finished up the scoring.
Defensive specialist
Ilsa Jeffery had another strong game causing four turnovers and picking up seven ground balls. Miroslavich caused four turnovers and picked up three loose balls.
Freshman Ferencz had an assist to go with her goal, caused two turnovers and picked up four ground balls. Ibanez and five draw controls and Lewis four for the Rams.
Hannah Miech and
Leila Velez split time in the net for Cornell, with Velez picking up the win. The two combined for seven saves on 22 shots on goal by the Raiders. Miech also picked up five ground balls.
Coming up – Rams stay at home Wednesday to face Beloit in a conference matchup. Game time is 6:00 p.m. at Van Metre Field at Ash Park.
