Galesburg, Ill. – Cornell baseball traveled to Knox College (14-19, 6-10 MWC) on Saturday for a doubleheader, coming away with a pair of victories. The Rams took game one 8-2 and game two 12-2 in eight innings, at Blodgett Field.
In game one, Senior
Vince Tinajero picked up his first win of the season. Tinajero went seven innings, giving up only one earned run on five hits. He struck out two and walked one batter.
The Rams scored four runs in the second.
Sean Alvarez brought in two runs with a double to left center, then scored on a single by
Esteban Perez.
Kale Rose scored the final run on a throwing error by Knox shortstop that allowed
Joseph Lomeli to reach base.
Cornell (13-21, 5-11 MWC) then put four insurance runs up in the seventh inning to secure the win.
Mason Sellers scored on an RBI single by
Thomas Hunt.
Cade Parks scored on a bases loaded walk by
Collin Severson.
Ryan Weaver was hit by a pitch that scored Hunt and
Vince Zipperer scored when
Kale Rose was walked, to round out the scoring.
Cade Parks and Alvarez each doubled for the Rams in game one.
Esteban Perez had three hits and Zipperer picked up two hits, Zipperer also scored twice for Cornell. Alvarez had two runs-batted-in.
In game two,
Vince Zipperer led the Rams going 4-of-4 at the plate with two doubles, scoring three runs and one run-batted-in.
Sean Alvarez added three hits, including a two-run homer to right field in the fifth inning.
Alverez had four runs-batted-in in game two and Sellers, Weaver and Severson each added two. Severson picked up his two RBIs on a two-run homer to left field in the top of the sixth. Weaver doubled twice for the Rams.
Freshman
Karson Rose picked up the win in game two. Throwing six strong innings, allowing only one run on three hits. He struck out three and walked three.
Coming up – The Rams return home Sunday, looking to sweep Knox on Senior Day. The first pitch is at 12:00 p.m. at Ash Park Field.
