RIPON, Wis. – After splitting the first two games of the series on Saturday against Ripon, Cornell baseball was looking to win the rubber game on Sunday afternoon, only to come up short 12-7 at Francis Field.
The Rams (9-14, 2-4 MWC) jumped on the board first when
Ryan Weaver crossed the plate on a SAC bunt by
Esteban Perez in the first inning. The Red Hawks (8-11, 4-2 MWC) then scored six unanswered runs to take control of the game.
Cornell rallied in the top half of the seventh to pull within three, when
Zach Garton was hit by a pitch. Garton advanced to second on Weaver's single to center field. Senior
Sean Alvarez picked up two RBIs with a double down the left field line. That would prove to be the closest the Rams would come.
Ryan Weaver and
Kale Rose each had three hits for the Rams. Alvarez had a double and three RBIs. Weaver and Garton each scored two runs for Cornell.
Cornell was outhit by the Red Hawks 16-10, with senior Chase Hanselman leading them at the plate. Hanselman was 4-for-4 with a home run, double, four RBIs and scored three runs.

Kale Rose went 3-for-5 at the plate passing John Tesensky for No. 2 on Cornell's all-time hits list with 188.
