MOUNT VERNON – In a battle of two of the top teams in the NACC, both looking to ensure a place in the conference tournament. Rams women's lacrosse won their seventh straight against Beloit 16-8 at Van Metre Field at Ash Park, to move to 4-1 in the NACC.
The Rams playing one of their best games of the year dominated the second and fourth quarter, outscoring the Buccaneers 11-3. In the second period Cornell (6-5 overall, 4-1 in NACC) had four different players score goals,
Sabrina Ibanez (two goals),
Brynn Miroslavich,
Cece Zanoni and
Ava Ferencz.
Cornell continued to share the wealth in the fourth quarter as six different Rams found the net.
Natalie Hudgins and
Hailey Sieler each scored their first goal of the game.
Meg Lewis, Ferencz and Miroslavich each scored their second goals of the game, and Zanoni scored her sixth goal.
Defensively the Rams were able to slow down the Beloit's (5-4 overall, 2-3 in NACC) high scoring offense that came into the game average 13.13 goals per game. Goalie
Hannah Miech had 15 saves on 28 shots by the Buccaneers in picking up her 27
th career win.
Ilsa Jeffery had five caused turnovers and picked up five ground balls for the Rams defense. Lewis caused two turnovers and Hudgins picked up five ground balls. Cornell won 12 draw controls with Ibanez picking up four, Ferencz and Lewis each had three.
Senior Zanoni had three assists to go with her six goals. Maya DeGeorge led Beloit with six goals.
