BELOIT, Wis. – Six different Rams netted a goal as Cornell's men's lacrosse team earned a pivotal road win over NACC foe Beloit, 7-5, Wednesday night at Strong Stadium.
Cornell (5-7 overall, 2-5 NACC) bumped ahead of the Buccaneers (4-7 overall, 1-6 NACC) in the league standings and strengthened its postseason chances with four games to go.
The Rams were tough on the defensive end, holding the home team to one second-half goal in a battle that was tied 4-4 at intermission. Cornell gained control with three unanswered goals in the third quarter, including the go-ahead score by
Landon Card at the 12:42 mark.
Back-to-back goals by
Torii Greiskalns and
Charley Kobets put the Rams ahead 7-4 midway through the third period. That proved to be enough cushion in the end.
Cornell senior goalie
Thomas Cook eclipsed 700 career saves with 15 stops in a complete-game effort. Cook also collected six ground balls to become the third Ram in program history to reach 200 in a career.
Greiskalns also impacted the defensive side with a game-high nine ground balls and three caused turnovers.
Charley Kobets tallied two goals to pace Cornell's attack.
Matt Norwood and
Tyler Foster both scored once in the first half. The Rams received one assist apiece from Foster and
Ryan Devine.
