PELLA – Cornell's
Jayson Stevens and
Eli Sneed earned top-three finishes in the 133-pound bracket of the Gold Division at Saturday's Central Under Armour Invitational.
Stevens (13-3) took runner-up after falling 5-2 in sudden victory in the championship match against UW-La Crosse's Wyatt Magolski. Stevens won 4-2 in the quarterfinals and rolled to a 19-4 technical fall in the semis.
The 12th-ranked Sneed (11-5) placed third with a 2-1 record. He dropped a 13-6 semifinal decision to Magolski.
The Rams had six placewinners in the Silver Division, led by 133-pound champion
Truman Folkers who raised his season record to 20-5. Folkers tallied two technical falls on his path to the finals, where he defeated Augsburg's Carter Freeman 4-1.
Evan Bratten (3-1 at 141) and
Brayden Pillars (2-1 at 157) both finished third in their respective weight classes. At 125,
Owen West and
Gage Samo shared fifth place. West recorded four pins during his impressive 4-1 day.
Clay Schemmel was sixth at 165.
Coming up – Cornell competes at the NWCA Duals Jan. 9-10 in Cedar Falls. The Rams open against 19th-ranked Wabash at 10 a.m. Friday.
