APPLETON, Wis. – Freshman guard
Kylen Bonner poured in a collegiate-best 29 points, although Cornell couldn't offset a torrid shooting night from Lawrence in Wednesday's 91-74 Midwest Conference men's basketball loss at Alexander Gym.
The host Vikings (9-4, 2-2 MWC) had no answer for Bonner, who hit 12-of-18 field goals with three 3-pointers. He netted 19 points in the second half. Bonner also led the Rams with six rebounds and three steals in 24 minutes of work.
Bonner scored five quick points during Cornell's 11-3 start to the contest. Lawrence gained control later in the half and built a 44-27 lead at intermission.
The top 3-point shooting team in the MWC, Lawrence connected on 17-of-35 attempts from 3-point land and shot 58.6 percent for the game. CJ Campbell paced the Vikings with seven 3-point goals and 29 points.
Senior
Caleb Leslie came off Cornell's bench for 12 points with four 3-pointers.
Cristian Acevedo pitched in seven points and
Cezer Sotomayor dished six assists, both in reserve roles.
Lawrence snapped a seven-game series losing streak against the Rams (1-12, 0-4 MWC).
Coming up – The Rams play host to Lake Forest (8-5, 3-1 MWC) at 1 p.m. Saturday in the Small Athletic and Wellness Center.
