DUBUQUE – Senior
Eli Sneed took home an individual championship, heading 11 Cornell placewinners at Sunday's Brown Terrell Invitational at the University of Dubuque.
The Rams fielded three of the top four finishers in the 133-pound bracket, highlighted by Sneed's 3-0 day as the No. 1 seed. Sneed (25-11) received a medical forfeit against freshman teammate
Truman Folkers in the title match.
Sneed earned a 17-1 technical fall in the quarterfinals and then edged teammate
Jayson Stevens in the semifinals, 3-1. Sneed eclipsed the 80-win mark for his career, now with 81 victories as a Ram.
Runner-up Folkers posted two pins and a major decision during his 3-1 tournament. Stevens finished fourth at 133.
Senior 141-pounder
Elliot Cooney and sophomore 197-pounder
Danny Decristofaro both took second at their respective weights. Cooney went 3-1 with a pair of pins before losing by fall to Dubuque's Gavin Ross in the final.
Decristofaro tallied two pins and a major decision. He lost by fall in the final to Chicago's top-seeded Gunnar Garriques.
At 133,
Jayden Rael placed third and
Christian Diaz was sixth. Freshman
Owen West finished fourth at 125.
The Rams had three placewinners at 174 with
Elias Chapin fourth,
Logan Pausch fifth and
Josue Hernandez sixth.
Coming up – The Rams (5-6) conclude their dual season Wednesday with a Bremner Cup meet at seventh-ranked Coe (8-5) at 7 p.m. in Cedar Rapids.
