ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – Senior
Olivia Cotton placed sixth in the 160-pound bracket to pace Cornell's women's wrestling team at the Quad Cities Division III National Invitational inside the Roy Carver Center.
The Rams compiled 23 points over the two-day tournament and finished 16th in the 30-team field.
Cotton rolled into the semifinals in a tough 32-woman weight class with two technical falls and a decision. She defeated UW-Stevens Point's Amerrah Kayon in the quarterfinals, 10-0.
Cotton lost by fall in the semifinals to top-seeded and sixth-ranked Keeley Kehrli of Simpson. Cotton was pinned by Aurora's Cheya Bishop in the consolation semifinals and then fell 9-3 to Wartburg's 10th-ranked May Prado in the fifth-place bout.
The team leader in wins, Cotton improved her season record to 27-10.
Cornell's
Cheyenne Mulford at 117 and
Tori Maxey at 180 both finished one win short from advancing to the place rounds.
Mulford (18-16) posted three consecutive wins on the consolation side and finished with a 3-2 mark. The senior earned a pin and two decisions before bowing out with a 9-2 loss to Wartburg's Jasmine Luedtke.
Maxey (10-8) recorded two pins during her 2-2 tournament. She lost by fall to Elmhurst's Juliana Lefort that denied her of a top-eight place.
Sidney Zimmerman (14-19) went 1-2 with a technical fall at 160 and
Averi Burke finished 1-2 at 138.
Sydney Newberg dropped both of her matches at 180.
