APPLETON, Wis. – Cornell's men's lacrosse team made a push in the final period, although couldn't make up a sizable deficit in Saturday's 17-8 loss to NACC foe Lawrence at the Banta Bowl.
The Rams (3-3 overall, 1-1 NACC) tallied five of their goals in the fourth quarter and outscored Lawrence (4-4, 1-2) by a 6-5 margin in the second half.
Lawrence took control early with eight first-period goals and led 12-2 at the half. The Vikings fired 65 shots on the day.
Cornell goalie
Nathan Diveley posted a career-best 26 saves – three shy of the school record – in a complete-game effort. The junior accounted for 19 saves in the opening half.
Junior
Tyler Foster paced Cornell with three goals and a pair of caused turnovers.
Kaden Weaver and
Charley Kobets pitched in two goals apiece, while
Caden Lynch scored once.
Sophomore
Ben Wojewski won 18-of-25 faceoffs and led the team with eight ground balls.
Brandon Warnke scooped six ground balls and handed out two assists.
Coming up – The Rams resume conference play Wednesday against defending champion Aurora (3-3 overall, 2-0 NACC) at 5 p.m. in Mount Vernon.
