MOUNT VERNON – Senior
Garrett Roehl delivered an RBI single with one out in the bottom of the ninth inning to send Cornell's baseball team to a 4-3 walk-off victory over Wisconsin Lutheran Sunday afternoon at Ash Park Field.
The Rams (8-7) celebrated a series win over Wisconsin Lutheran, after splitting Saturday's doubleheader.
Cornell rallied for four runs in its final three at-bats in Sunday's contest, which saw the Warriors (4-9) tie the score at 3-3 with a two-out unearned run in the top of the ninth.
Senior
Jackson Hill set the stage for a dramatic finish in the bottom of the ninth with a one-out triple to deep center field. The Warriors intentionally walked Cornell's next two batters, loading the bases for No. 5 hitter Roehl.
Roehl drove the first pitch into left field to plate Hill with the winning run. Roehl and Hill both finished with two hits on the day.
The Rams struck three times with two outs in the bottom of the seventh to take a 3-2 lead.
Thomas Hunt singled in two runs and then Hill stole home for the go-ahead run.
Junior right-hander
Lucas Brutsche gave the Rams a quality pitching start, scattering eight hits and yielding two runs over seven innings. He struck out three and walked none.
Hunt (1-0) fired one-hit ball over the final two innings to earn the victory. He did not allow an earned run.
Both teams finished with nine hits.
Jasper Hancox had a pair of singles for Cornell.
Coming up – The Rams remain home Monday night for one scheduled nine-inning game against Central (6-9) at Ash Park Field. First pitch is 7 p.m.
