FOND DU LAC, WI – A strong fourth period was not enough, as the Rams drop their conference opener on the road to Marian at Smith Field, 7-5.
The Rams (1-6, 0-1 NACC) jumped out to the early lead when
Brynn Miroslavich found the back of the net at the 12:34 mark of the first quarter. Marian (2-6, 1-0 NACC) scored twice midway through the first, to take the 2-1 lead.
Hailey Sieler scored early in the second period on an assisted goal by
Evi Reedy, to tie the game up. The Sabres then rolled off four consecutive goals.
Cornell outscored the Sabres 3-1 in the fourth period to make the game close. Reedy scored at the 13:11 mark, on an assist from
Ava Ferencz. Miroslavich added two more goals at the end of the fourth, giving her 12 goals for the season.
Ilsa Jeffery led the Rams defense with six caused turnovers, picking up 10 ground balls. Ferencz led Cornell with two assists, while causing five turnovers and picking up six ground balls.
Goalie
Hannah Miech had seven saves for the Rams while picking up three ground balls.
Natalie Hudgins and
Violette Finnegan added three ground balls each.
Coming up – The Rams are home on Saturday to face Concordia (Wis.) (2-5, 0-1 NACC) at Van Metre Field at Ash Park. Game time is 1:00 pm.
