AUBURNDALE, Fla. – Cornell's baseball team put up several crooked numbers on the scoreboard in Saturday's 16-11 Game 1 slugfest win over Alfred at Lake Myrtle Park.
Alfred quieted Cornell's bats in the second game with a 14-2 victory.
The Rams (3-4) accumulated 17 hits in the opener, led by a 4-for-5 effort from No. 2 batter
Jackson Hill who tripled and scored four times.
Jimmy Moltini went 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles and five RBIs. The Rams also received multi-hit games from
Luke Hull,
Caleb Smith and
Garrett Roehl. Smith had two RBIs.
No. 9 hitter
Landon Moore highlighted the outburst with a grand slam in the fifth inning that put the Rams ahead 15-5. It was the freshman's first collegiate extra-base hit.
Junior right-hander
Lucas Brutsche struck out six and allowed five runs over 4.1 innings to notch the pitching win.
Alfred (1-1) turned the tables in Game 2 and outhit the Rams, 12-6. Cornell gave up five unearned runs.
Hull went 2-for-3 with an RBI at the top of Cornell's lineup.
Seth Lopez also had an RBI hit in Cornell's two-run seventh frame.
