MOUNT VERNON – Cornell women's lacrosse recognized five seniors Saturday for their contributions to the program, then they all proceeded to contribute to a huge win over NACC opponent Illinois Tech at Van Metre Field at Ash Park, 15-4.
After the Scarlet Hawks (3-11, 1-5 NACC) scored first at the 12:02 mark of the first period, Cornell (4-8, 3-3 NACC) rolled off four straight goals.
Senior
Brynn Miroslavich scored three consecutive goals, giving her a team high 22 for the season.
Ava Ferencz assisted on the last two.
Alex Neely added the fourth goal during the run on an assist from senior
Hailey Sieler.
Illinois Tech scored to start the second period to pull within two, before Cornell netted 11 of the next 13 goals to seal the win.
Sieler finished with five points (three goals and two assists) for the Rams. Senior
Sabrina Ibanez, Ferencz,
Cassie Clay and
Evi Reedy each scored twice.
Alex Neely finished with one goal for Cornell.
The Rams defense held the Scarlet Hawks to 10 shots, while they attempted 42. Senior
Ilsa Jeffery the career leader in caused turnovers for the Rams, forced two turnovers and picked up four ground balls. Ferencz led Cornell with seven ground balls, seven caused turnovers and four draw controls.
Natalie Hudgins and Clay each picked up four loose balls for the Rams.
Kailey McFarlin caused three turnovers, and Clay had three draw controls.
Senior goalie
Hannah Miech played all 60 minutes in the net to pick up the win. Meich finished with three saves.
Coming up – The Rams in fifth place in the NACC with three games remaining are at home Wednesday to face fourth place Edgewood (5-9, 4-2 NACC) at Van Metre Field at Ash Park. The top six teams qualify for the conference tournament. Game time is 5:00 pm.
