VERONA, Wis. – Sophomore
Ben Wojewski established a Cornell single-game record for faceoff wins Thursday night as the Rams came up short in a high-scoring 17-13 road shootout to NACC foe Edgewood.
Wojewski dominated the dot, winning 26-of-32 faceoffs for the night, including all eight in the third quarter. He broke the school record of 25 faceoff wins, accomplished twice by George Ziama in the 2019 season.
Wojewski also gathered a career-high 13 ground balls for the Rams (3-10 overall, 1-8 NACC), who held a decisive 51-36 advantage in ground balls and went an efficient 22-of-26 in clear attempts.
Edgewood (3-10 overall, 3-6 NACC) built a 9-2 lead early in the second period, and held on from there. The Rams charged back and cut the deficit to 11-9 on a
Tyler Foster goal with 9:20 left in the third quarter.
The Rams stayed within striking distance at 15-12 after an
Alexander Dukatz score with 6:17 remaining, although couldn't complete the big comeback.
Foster and Dukatz tallied three goals apiece in pacing Cornell to its highest scoring output of the NACC season.
Kaden Weaver pitched in two goals and two assists, while
Charley Kobets accounted for three assists and one goal.
Brandon Warnke posted nine ground balls. Foster and
Ryan Ransom both had two caused turnovers.
Goalie
Nathan Diveley reached double-digit saves for the eighth consecutive game. He finished with 17 over 60 minutes.
