Box Score 2 APPLETON, Wis. – Cornell's men's tennis team traveled to Wisconsin to open up MWC play against Lawrence University and Ripon College. The Rams (12-9, 2-0 MWC) picked up a pair of 6-1 wins over both the Vikings and Red Hawks.
In the morning slate taking on Lawrence, Cornell swept the doubles matches earning the team point. No. 1 pair of
Trent Devore &
Jack Saunders won 6-4, No. 2 duo of
Mills Arnold &
Sam Cumicek earned a 6-3 victory, while No. 3 tandem
Zachary Ong &
Henry Lambley secured a 6-2 decision.
The Rams won five of the six singles matches, all in straight sets thanks to victories by Saunders, Ong,
Drew Campbell, Lambley and Arnold. Devore dropped a close battle 6-0, 1-6, 6-3 at No. 1
Against Ripon, the Rams once again took all three doubles matches earning the team point. Devore & Saunders were winners 6-2 at No. 1, while
Gavin Collyott &
Matthew Oshiro matched a 6-2 win of their own at No. 3. Arnold & Cumicek came away with a 6-4 victory at No. 2
The Rams won five of the six singles matches again, this time with four of them being in straight sets by Saunders, Lambley, Oshiro and Collyott. Campbell powered through to a 6-4, 6-7, 6-3 decision at No. 3.
Saunders enjoyed a 4-0 day individually, while Lambely and Arnold both finished 3-0 to pace Cornell.
