Becker honored with Russell W. Landis Award at Rammy's

MOUNT VERNON – Cornell's student-athletes, coaches, staff and faculty turned out Monday night to celebrate many outstanding 2025-26 accomplishments at the Rammy's inside the Small Athletic and Wellness Center.
 
Senior volleyball standout Ella Becker was presented the Russell W. Landis Award, the night's most prestigious honor recognizing the individual who best demonstrated academic excellence, campus leadership and athletic development over a four-year career.
 
Becker was named First Team All-Midwest Conference, First Team All-Region IX and AVCA Honorable Mention All-American during a fantastic senior season, guiding the Rams to their 13th consecutive MWC championship and fifth straight NCAA berth. The four-year starting libero compiled 2,026 digs, the third-highest total in school history.
 
In March, Becker became the first Cornell female student-athlete to receive the NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship. A two-time recipient of the MWC Elite 20 Award, Becker was named Cornell's 2025 Paul Maaske Scholar-Athlete and has been inducted to the Phi Beta Kappa and Chi Alpha Sigma honor societies. She carries a 4.0 GPA with a double major in psychological sciences and kinesiology.
 
Hailey Carolan (track & field) was selected the Ellen Whale Senior Female Athlete of the Year, and Isaac vanWestrienen (cross country/track & field) tabbed the Paul K. Scott Senior Male Athlete of the Year. 
 
Carolan is a 22-time all-MWC performer, 10-time MWC champion and four-time high jump all-American. The Phi Beta Kappa electee has claimed eight all-region awards and holds school records in four events. Carolan is a nine-time MWC Performer of the Week.
 
VanWestrienen is a 13-time MWC champion and five-time all-American on the track, where he owns school records in eight events. The distance star is the current NCAA Division III outdoor leader at 5000 and 10000 meters. In his final cross country season, vanWestrienen won his second straight MWC title and recorded Cornell's highest NCAA finish by a male runner, placing third. He captured a mind-boggling 25 MWC Performer of the Week awards in his career.
 
Sportsman of the Year was presented to senior Lewis Page (soccer), while senior Ava Claussen-Tubbs (cross country/track & field) was voted Sportswoman of the Year. Page was a dedicated four-year member of the soccer program, serving on the team's leadership council for three years. The three-time academic all-MWC performer was part of numerous study abroad/internship experiences and volunteered in various community activities.
 
An 11-time MWC track champion, Claussen-Tubbs earned Second Team All-America honors in the indoor 800-meter run and holds school records in eight events. The Phi Beta Kappa electee claimed all-region and all-conference status in cross country as a senior. Claussen-Tubbs has been involved in SAAC, ACTION, music, choir, opera, theatre and writing studio.
 
The Junior Male and Female Athletes of the Year were awarded to Brian Petry (wrestling) and Corrin Kennedy (softball), respectively. Petry qualified for the NCAA Championships at 165 pounds for the second consecutive year. Ranked as high as No. 7 nationally this season, the NWCA Scholar All-American led the Rams with a 30-10 record.
 
Kennedy has guided the softball team to its first 20-win season since 2019 and a berth in this week's MWC Tournament. The strong-armed catcher is among the MWC leaders with a .451 batting average and .726 slugging percentage.
 
Justice Toledo (soccer) won Sophomore Male Athlete of the Year. The First Team All-MWC attacker ranked second in the league in goals and points. Toledo was voted Cornell's Offensive Player of the Year.
 
Michaela Clark was named Sophomore Female Athlete of the Year after a spectacular first season with the nationally-ranked Rams, who won a school-record 24 duals. Regionally-ranked at singles, Clark claimed MWC Player of the Year and Newcomer of the Year honors and finished the campaign at 44-13.  
 
Cornell's First-Year Male And Female Athletes of the Year went to Kylen Bonner (basketball) and Selia Stein (volleyball). Bonner landed on the All-MWC Second Team, becoming Cornell's first freshman all-conference player in men's basketball.
 
Stein was tabbed First Team All-MWC as a key contributor on the Rams' NCAA Tournament squad. She ranked No. 15 nationally in total blocks and posted the fifth-most blocks in a season at Cornell.
 
Student broadcaster extraordinaire Jack Carlson was named Bob Black Friend of Cornell Athletics, presented by sports information director Kerry Kahl.
 
Athletic trainers Allisa Gurtner and Amanda Passaglia recognized senior Charlotte McHughs as the Sports Medicine Assistant of the Year.
