ALBANY, N.Y. – Cornell's men's wrestling team was put to the test Saturday against three top-15 opponents at the Armbar at the Armory on its trip to New York.
Senior 197-pounder
Treyten Steffen enjoyed a perfect 3-0 day to lead the Rams, who dropped duals to 11th-ranked Castleton (27-11), 12th-ranked Stevens (22-20) and 14th-ranked The College of New Jersey (30-10).
Eli Sneed went 2-1 at 133 and
Landon Card finished 2-1 at 149 for Cornell, which moved to 2-4 on the dual season.
Cornell split 10 matches in the tightly-contested meet with Stevens. The Rams led 11-9 at the halfway point, scoring an 8-5 sudden victory from 125-pounder
Jayden Rael and major decisions from Card (11-3) and
Gabriel Smith (19-5 at 157).
The Rams finished the dual with a 9-2 decision from Steffen and a pin in 5:18 by heavyweight
Jackson Brinker.
Against Castleton, Cornell posted major decisions at 133 (Sneed 13-4) and 197 (Steffen 12-4), while picking up a 5-2 decision from Card.
The Rams won three matches against The College of New Jersey, including a 16-4 major decision by Steffen. Cornell's 12th-ranked
Cael McLaren won 8-1 at 184. Sneed prevailed 5-2 at 133.
The Rams sent a split squad to the Coe Invitational, where they had seven individuals finish in the top eight.
Cornell claimed three placewinners in the heavyweight bracket, led by a fourth-place showing from
Landen Schemmel.
Brandon Bray recorded three pins and finished fifth, while
Quinn Wilcoxen took seventh.
Senior 197-pounder Nick DuMunno finished fifth. The Rams received seventh-place efforts from
Jacob Redington (133),
Logan Pausch (165) and
Jaden Walker (184).
