Three Rams honored on All-Midwest Esports Conference Teams

MOUNT VERNON – The Cornell Esports team saw three of its players selected to the All-Midwest Esports Conference First and Second Teams for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate in Block 3.
 
Arjay Jacobs and Joyuse Avila-Rodriguez were named Second Team All-MEC, while Camden Bergquist was honored with First Team All-MEC laurels. Jacobs was also a finalist for Rookie of the Year and was named Most Improved Player of the Year for the MEC. Bergquist finished in the top three in MVP voting for the conference. 
 
In Block 2, the Valorant team competed in the MEC Valorant Playoffs hosted by Purdue Northwest on Nov. 11-12. The Varsity Valorant team went 2-1 and defeated Simpson in a best-of-three series to advance to play Cleveland State in the finals.
 
Cornell lost the championship to Cleveland State and wound up taking runner-up.
 
After qualifying for the UNI Rocket League LAN, the Rocket League team secured big wins versus the University of Northern Iowa and Saint Ambrose.
 
Overwatch 2 Varsity, who started their season undefeated, went on to finish with a 5-1 record in the regular season. They finished the season with a strong win over the University of Northern Iowa. Their playoff run begins Nov. 28 at 7 p.m. versus Rodgers State University.
 
The Varsity League of Legends team went 4-1 in the regular season and took a win in the quarterfinals over a strong Illinois Wesleyan team. They will face the University of Missouri in the NECC Playoffs semifinals Nov. 27.
 
The JV League of Legends qualified for the playoffs, beating in-state schools Hawkeye Community College and Wartburg College during the regular season, as well as Wash U in St. Louis. They lost in the quarterfinals of their playoffs to undefeated Augustana College.
